Fellowship for Intentional Communities is Blossoming
by Fellowship for Intentional Communities
The Fellowship for Intentional Community has served as a voice and a resource for the cooperative living movement since its founding in 1987. Communities and ecovillages all over the world use our website and directory to seek out new members, connect with like-minded communities, and share their vision with the media and the general public.
Over the past year, we’ve gone through many changes to keep our offerings as timely and relevant as possible. We’ve welcomed a new Executive Director, Sky Blue, expanded our social media presence, and released the 7th edition of the Communities Directory, which includes listings from over 1,200 communities in the U.S. and beyond.
We’ve long valued the work of related organizations like the Global Ecovillage Network and NASCO (North American Students of Cooperation), and this year we’ve worked to highlight the peer-to-peer and solidarity economies by teaming up with groups like Shareable and the New Economies Coalition. You’ll find many of our members active at regional events like the Twin Oaks Communities Conference and the West Coast Communities Conference.
At our Community Bookstore page on Vimeo, you can buy or rent documentaries related to community living, including Within Reach and Visions of Utopia. Our video offerings cover everything from cohousing, to couchsurfing, to permaculture.
We post new articles on our blog several times each week, featuring stories from the past, present, and future of the communities movement. By following our Facebook page or signing up for our newsletter, you’ll learn about historical movements like the utopian communes of the 1800s, or futuristic projects like a seasteading community being planned in French Polynesia. And of course, there are always tips, resources, and first-hand reports about living in co-ops, cohousing, and ecovillages in the present day.
As the communities movement continues to grow, so will FIC. We hope you’ll reach out and let us know how we can better help you start, join, or grow a community of your own. If you value our work, please support our fundraising campaign so we can keep at it for years to come!
Best wishes to the Gaia Education community this winter!
