Carbon neutral server and an old church as new office

17 September 2018

Gaia Education strives to support sustainable and local companies, to show businesses are ready to invest in a more sustainable future.

An important part of our programmes are online and we are conscious of the amount of carbon emitted by servers hosting our platforms. Thus, we decided to move our hosting services over to a green web provider to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our research led us to choose ECO Hosting, based in the UK. The company offsets their carbon emissions for both data centre and offices, and their data centres are powered by renewable energy and are cooled using the British weather. They also support reforestation projects all over the UK.

And while we moved servers, we also moved offices! Gaia Education is still based in Edinburgh, UK, but now in an old church converted into offices. Natural light and plants fill our new spaces, in Summerhall, a cultural and artsy village in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.
