Our EDE & PDC taking place at Kisantu Botanical Gardens in partnership with ICCN (Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature) brings together International facilitators, park rangers, Indigenous community leaders & community members and all others interested in collectively
examining the four dimensions of the EDE mandala whilst incorporating facilitating elements of the Pocket Project Resilience Program, to draft together localized and contextualized course materials that will further be used within our local communities to encourage asset based community led
development.

The Congo, second largest rainforest of our planet Earth, has a multitude of protected zones under ICCN. Kisantu Botanical Gardens is a 225 hectare protected site approximately 120kms from Kinshasa. Founded in 1900, the gardens house over 2,200 different plant species, including medicinal plants, indigenous trees, exotic tropical varieties and orchids.

It represents the last remaining forest ecosystem in the district and acts as a biodiversity oasis.
There is a herbarium on site as well as a seed bank and library within the research center. The site is on the riverbanks of the Inkisi River.

How to run an EDE?

Several of our EDE graduates have carried on organising EDE programmes in their local areas, and you are warmly encouraged to do so after completing your course.

The recommended time frame of an EDE is four weeks, however this is not fixed and varies with each individual programme.

The material can be condensed into smaller workshops, spread out over a longer period, or distributed in blocks at different times and locations.
