Programme Description
We are delighted to be offering the EDE for the 12th time in the heart of winter and in the cozy settings of Schloss Glarisegg in Switzerland! Since 2026, we have added the title “Creating Transformatives Cultures” because we recognize that as we have moved into a time of unpredictable change, where we need to cultivate skills and build capacities to deal with the unknown as collectives - honoring diversity, acting in integrity and maintaining connection with each other.
We invite you to embark with us on an empowering individual and collective process of re-imagining our relationship with the world and ourselves. Explore what fosters thriving communities and resilient projects for a healthy and equitable future in a rapidly changing world.
Together you embark on a lively journey of collaboration. You experience the power of authenticity, of community and the art of connection – which are needed antidotes to polarisation, discrimination and separation. You will research and learn what it takes to be fully present, to co-create communities and projects, maintain them in a healthy way and overcome challenges together.
We offer a special focus on social tools for individual and group competencies for intimate and large group communications, decision-making, conflict resolution, and project planning. We invite a large group of participants to have ample practice in different sizes of collective endeavours.
LEARNING JOURNEY
The Ecovillage Design Education course is a 5 week experiential laboratory, where you are encouraged to pose the questions most relevant in our times while building capacity to be(come) an agent of change. You explore what it means to be alive on this beautiful but wounded planet. How to hold the complexity of a world in crisis - within yourself and others? The course intends to empower and accompany you on your path.
We welcome you to a learning journey inspired by various approaches to social transformation, as well as over 20 years of experience of the Ecovillage Schloss Glarisegg, as a thriving community project.
What is special about the course in 2027, is its integrated immersive 4-days workshop in Community Building, informed by the work of Scott Peck. His approach offers a simple yet powerful framework through which people from diverse backgrounds can build trust, safety, connection, and mutual respect within a relatively short period of time.
Throughout the workshop, you will practice sitting in circle together, listening deeply, and noticing when you feel moved to speak. Together, we will pay attention to the themes, questions, and experiences that emerge within the group. In doing so, the workshop invites a different quality of togetherness — one that can deepen connection, openness, and collective insight. This approach is widely used in groups and teams worldwide and will be facilitated by the founder of Community Building International, Edward Groody, a former student of Scott Peck, and his team of facilitators.
This course provides numerous thematic workshops and diverse deepening sessions in which you will research relevant topics for a regenerative future while exploring new and ancient ways of seeing the world and ultimately aim to inspire you to engage in these extraordinary times with agency and care.
You are so welcome to join us!
We welcome people from all walks of life, ages, genders and backgrounds, open to imagine a regenerative way of being and acting with creativity and playfulness!
Each year's course is a novel experience, as the constellation of 40 – 50 people coming together from different parts of the world in this particular moment in time will bring up unique questions and topics to discover and learn from.
Schloss Glarisegg
The community is situated on the Swiss side of Lake Constance, nestled between forests and the beach. For more than 20 years, the castle Community has been a place of connection, mindfulness and awareness – and a home to 33 adults and 20 children. The community also hosts a seminar centre, a school for children, a forest Kindergarden, a permaculture and agroforestry project, and is home to artists, musicians and therapists. It is a living example of a thriving community.
How to run an EDE?
Several of our EDE graduates have carried on organising EDE programmes in their local areas, and you are warmly encouraged to do so after completing your course.
The recommended time frame of an EDE is four weeks, however this is not fixed and varies with each individual programme.
The material can be condensed into smaller workshops, spread out over a longer period, or distributed in blocks at different times and locations.
